My Take
The best thing about Ted Ed is the exposure students get to real scientists. It is a quick way to access scientists, great thinkers, and great ideas. The talks are short and fit easily into a regular class period. They are very engaging, lead to excellent discussions, and higher order thought processes. There are also lessons associated with many of the videos. It is very easy to create a lesson around these videos.
How I Use It
I have used the videos and lessons as hooks, for direct instruction, and guided practice. It also fits nicely into my blended learning classroom. I have used these videos in my flipped classroom and have students watch them on their own time and at their own pace. They are very engaging so it is a great way to generate student interest outside the classroom to promote a flipped classroom. Lessons are also easy to use and can be modified. There is also the ability to create a lesson and share it with others.
