An essential part of any classroom with technology!
Without this app our iPads would not be as effective! This is like putting 17 teachers who can read with students at once. I also love that I can change a reading level with the click of a button. I would love to see some new books added. I think any teacher who has iPads or laptops in their classroom needs to have their students using Raz kids. It is the best reading program I have found.

Leveled stories where students can read, listen, record self, and answer comprehension questions
Raz-kids.com, in conjunction with ReadingA-Z.com, is a great learning tool because it can be easily differentiated for the students in your classroom. With a wide range of reading levels, students can be placed according to their reading level. While I have found the level s of Raz-kids to be significantly harder than the DRA or Lexile levels indicate, but you can always adjust to make it work with your kids. I also love that there are features for students to listen to a book being read to them, read the same book to themselves, and a comprehension component. This works great for students who have a high listening comprehension, but have difficulty decoding, to keep them exposed to higher order thinking skills, vocabulary, etc. You can also keep track of students' progress, which types of questions they miss frequently (vocab, cause/effect, etc.), and even have them record themselves so that they can listen to their prosody skills.

Great site for encouraging reading
This encourages reading. Our teachers like it better than the Accelerated Reading Program and it is less expensive. The program is for students up through 6th grade. We have found that it is definitely challenging enough for our students.

User-friendly independent reading (part of a larger literacy suite)
RAZ Kids is, for my money, the best paid website for elementary independent reading. I've tried other paid sites like ConnectED, as well as free services, and none of them are as user-friendly (for students AND teachers) and flexible as RAZ Kids.
The books in RAZ Kids are created by their parent company, Learning A-Z, and if your supervisor is nice enough to buy you access to ReadingA-Z.com, you'll have access to printable and projectable versions of all the books, along with complete guided reading lessons, worksheets, and more.
In short, it's difficult not to gush. The Graphite reviewer is right: the books don't always feature the most artful writing. But to get your screen-addicted students reading regulary at home, in a way you can track, there's nothing better.

Great resource for encouraging reading at home!
I use Raz-Kids with my kindergarteners, who have a range of reading ability from still learning letter sounds to reading an extremely gifted child reading at a 4th grade level. Its great for all students in primary grades.
