Codecademy - Smart Fun
I like that it teaches several different lessons and is self-paced. My students who finish their SCRATCH projects earlier than others love to use it to make new games in different coding languages! I also think it is good for students to get exposuree to a variety of coding languages before they enter high school. This gives them an advantage when choosing which classes to take when they get to high school!

Great web site for Supplementing Learning about Computer Science and Computational Thinking
I think it is a great tool to help supplement learning of Computer Science Principles. I use this web site to teach the College Board's pilot AP Computer Science Principles course, and I think it works really great in teaching my students CSP.
The drawback is the amount of reading required by Code Academy for students to learn the topics. It has been very challenging for ELL and students of special needs. Overall, though, I would highly recommend using this Web site to supplement teaching Computer Science Principles.

Coding-the new foreign language
Codecademy is a site that could be used with advanced students. They could work independently to learn 7 different programming languages. I liked that students could work independently, what I didn't like was that they were unable to complete the activities due to our district's bandwidth. This site did motivate my students to go on and do lessons on Ruby and Python. I would like to see some other basic activities that could be used with lower level students. It would also be helpful if after a specific number of tries there could be a way to see exactly what you did incorrectly. Students were frustrated that after coding and doing what they believed was correct the code did not run.

Are Your Students Ready for the 22nd Century?
I thought this was an excellent tool and doesn't require the teacher to know anything about programming. The instructions are good. I would like there to be embedded text-to-speech options however. This site goes very well with CODE.org.

Good resource for the student coder or computer science teacher.
This site is extensive and has a steep learning curve. It is not particularly good to "hook" students on coding, I would recommend other sites for that. If a student is motivated and wants to learn, this certainly has in depth knowledge and tutorials for a variety of languages. Though students can go back and repeat lessons for review, the site does not often ask students to reuse skills once they have been covered initially. This would best be used when paired with an authentic assessment like building a webpage for a class or community group. In short this site is great for learning the what and how, but the instructor is important in determining the why.

Codeacademy is great for any person who knows how to read and is ready for more advanced coding
I love codeacademy and have even recommended it to my own personal children. I don't think that it has to be specifically used in a lesson but I think that every child and parent who is interested in coding should be not only aware but active in this environment. It should always be an option for extended learning.

Awesome step by step walkthrough of coding. Anyone can learn to code in a variety of coding languages.
Code Academy is a great resource for a teacher who does not know a whole lot about coding. Students can select what level they want to start at, and build skills off of that! I would highly recommend for anyone. Best of all, it is free!

Great "next step" for kids who have a background for code *not for beginners*
This website is great! I like that it gives step-by-step directions for students to follow, that according to their information is appropriate for 7-12 graders, but can be used with younger, such as fifth, with whole class instruction.
I think this a great teaching skill for students who are interested in computer programing and coding.

Well organized intro to coding
Overall, the content can be a bit much to take in all at once, however the interactive features are engaging and the immediate feedback helps to keep learners focused. The explanations were clear and simple, a benefit considering that coding can seem complex to a beginner. I don’t see this program working well with younger students due to the nature of the content and the interface.
