My Take

Codecademy is a site that could be used with advanced students. They could work independently to learn 7 different programming languages. I liked that students could work independently, what I didn't like was that they were unable to complete the activities due to our district's bandwidth. This site did motivate my students to go on and do lessons on Ruby and Python. I would like to see some other basic activities that could be used with lower level students. It would also be helpful if after a specific number of tries there could be a way to see exactly what you did incorrectly. Students were frustrated that after coding and doing what they believed was correct the code did not run.

How I Use It

I used Code Academy during the Hour of Code week in December. Three of my students on our tech team used this application and did the Java lesson on coding your name. They wrote a tutorial to share with their classmates. This program worked wonderfully at home but on the district network with little ram the students had some issues completing their project in class. This project motivated students to try some other coding websites.
