My Take

This website is great! I like that it gives step-by-step directions for students to follow, that according to their information is appropriate for 7-12 graders, but can be used with younger, such as fifth, with whole class instruction.
I think this a great teaching skill for students who are interested in computer programing and coding.

How I Use It

Code Academy says for grades 7-12, but I decided to give it a try with 5th graders. I wanted this to be student-led and for the students to play around with coding and learning by doing. I decided to have them give "Animate Your Name" a try. However, 10 year olds were not mature enough to follow step-by-step to successfully pass each level. When I stopped them and we worked through and READ the directions carefully and to their full extent, then they were able to move through with ease. They felt a sense of accomplishment when they were successfully able to animate their name. Other areas of this site allow students to build a website, learn about javascript, and HTML.
