Bio
I am a secondary biology and science teacher currently teaching in a small school on Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada. Two small local high schools are transitioning into a 1:1 BYOD environment this fall where each grade 9 will be bringing a laptop or tablet to class. Students will have all different devices, so apps and tools that are device agnostic always catch my attention. This year I am teaching digital learning strategies, math, credit recovery and have part of my day as an instructional coach (with a focus on supporting teachers in their work with First Nations, Metis and Inuit students).
Recently I have taught science courses and a variety of subjects at an alternative secondary school program designed for First Nations students. In the past I have taken on the role of student success teacher and ICT consultant. I was fortunate to have taught in an isolated northern Cree community for many years and now work in small communities where I can participate in projects connecting community and schools. I am in my element when supporting projects that have the ability to reach all students, include outdoor education components or community connections. I also have a passion for supporting teacher-directed professional development.
I value innovation and entrepreneurship in education and am a strong believer of networked learning, encouraging educators to join in the conversations and direct their own learning. I am currently working on my masters in Education and Digital Technologies.
