Bio

I have been a teacher consultant with the UC Merced Writing Project since the summer of 2001. I am currently the project’s Assistant Director for Secondary. In this capacity I have organized and facilitated Teacher-Led-Workshops; Saturday CAHSEE Academies; Young Writers’ Summer Academies; A Math Summer Academy integrating writing; CELDT Academy; and an ISAW Advanced Institute to name a few. I have participated in the CWP Statewide initiative for Improving Student Analytical Writing (ISAW) since 2001 and have been a CATE Pre-Convention presenter many times.

I have been an educator for the past 40+ years and have taught all levels of high school English from remedial to honors and freshman to seniors. I have been a Program Specialist at the district level and worked with English, Social Studies, GATE, and Career Technical Education teachers. In addition to my work with the writing project I was the Merced Regional Coordinator for Cal-PASS where I facilitated professional learning councils in Math, English Language Arts, and English Language Learners.

My professional experiences include: Coordinator for the Merced Union High School District Writing Assessment; CAHSEE Item Review Committee; AWPE Scoring; NWP Scoring Conference; ISAW Scoring; Facilitator for GEAR UP Vertical teams in the Atwater Area; and BTSA Mentor to name a few.

I am active in the educational community in Merced County and am an advocate for improved writing instruction at the secondary level.
