In just my 11 years of teaching, I can't believe how much has changed! I can still remember the huge transition is was for me to get rid of the transparency copies I had diligently created in my student teaching program back at Indiana University. Gone are the days of looking back. Instead, as educators, we look forward to seeing just how wonderfully our students will become, nay!, are already becoming part of the a digital and global world.
Working in high diversity/low economic communities for the last 7 years has led me passionately fight for every student to have a seat at the educational table that is being transformed hourly by technology. While most of my students lack internet and even computer access and home, it is my goal to help them develop the skills needed to succeed in their education and most importantly beyond.
Through involvement with the Area 2 Writing Project as well as the Parent Teacher Home Visit Project, I have gained so many insights on how I can build up students based off of their strengths instead of their social, economical, and emotional disadvantages.
