Bio
I have been working full-time as an educator for 20+ years with particular emphasis on Computer Science and Technology Integration. I have had the opportunity to teach each grade in K-12 environments over the course of my career. For over 15 years, I worked with elementary and middle school students to use technology to aid their learning. For the last 7 years, I have led high school students to create, explore and innovate using Communication Technology tools like the Adobe Creative Suite. In addition, I teach courses in History with the goal of using technology as one of many powerful tools and approaches to explore, learn about and empathize with individuals from the past.
I am a lifelong learner, keen to explore new pedagogies and strategies to aid anytime, anywhere learning and collaborations with others. I continue to update my skills with certification in online learning. In July 2017, I completed my Masters in Education and Digital Technology which helped extend my PLN and allowed me to pursue academic goals and explore new ways to support my students. Tools like Coursea, and other MOOCs, provide excellent opportunities for self-directed learning and I have completed courses in Indigenous Canada (University of Alberta) and ICT in Primary Education (University of London) among others.
I have earned certifications as a Adobe Creative Educator, Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, Common Sense Educator, SMART Exemplary Educator as well as other tools like Flipgrid, Symboloo, Class Dojo and many others. I am currently exploring tutorials and certification options at the Adobe Education Exchange.
In my school, I have led professional development opportunities with colleagues through presentations at school and at conferences using a variety of educational technology. I share best practices and offer support and collaborate with colleagues to determine successful approaches for online and blended learning, use of tools like OneNote and Teams, and creating supportive environments for students to demonstrate agency and caring.
Each day working as an educator is a gift. I enjoy the challenge of aiding students and colleagues to learn, explore and succeed in the classroom or anywhere. Technology offers the potential for exploring and learning but is most exciting to me when used to create, share and help others.
I am a lifelong learner, keen to explore new pedagogies and strategies to aid anytime, anywhere learning and collaborations with others. My recent interests are computational thinking, programming, blended and online learning, flipped learning, mobile technology, game based learning, digital photography, eportfolios, social media, blogging, digital citizenship, digital media and digital storytelling. (Wow, that is a lot of digital terms! However, good pedagogy and learning has to come first.)
I seek formal (academic) and informal (MOOC's, social media...) learning opportunities to continue my journey as both an educator and global citizen.
