My Take
This is a step in the right direction for younger students using YouTube as a learning resource. The videos and music on YouTube Kids are appropriate for younger grades. As with all online resources, do not leave your students alone with YouTube Kids. Monitor what they are watching and listening to.
The videos on YouTube Kids are a great resource for enhancing a lesson or hooking the student's into what information is about to come.
How I Use It
YouTube Kids brings visual and auditory learning to the classroom with the use of videos and music. Parents (or teachers) have the ability to make some setting adjustments, including a timer and turning off the search feature. By turning of the search feature, you limit the student's ability to find non-kid videos. For example, if you search Justin Bieber, you will find a video of him on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
The video section is a series of channels. The student can select a channel and explore the videos within. Videos include everything from Disney Shorts and Reading Rainbow.
The music section includes a wide variety of music channels for students to explore. Some are well known, like Recess Monkey, while some are not.
The learning section provides a nice collection of educational videos for students to learn from and teachers to use as enhancements in the classroom.
