My Take
This website provides an outstanding forum for middle and high school students to express their ideas and opinions globally. The global connections students can make with this website are invaluable. Students can contribute as video creators or as writers, making this site valuable to different learners and modalities. The website also supports Tweets and Facebook posts. Students have the opportunity to take their involvement with Your Commonwealth to an advanced level by becoming Commonwealth Correspondents - promising writers, videographers and youth leaders who want to engage with the rest of the world.
How I Use It
Your Commonwealth provides young people with a place to share their thoughts about things like injustice, poverty and the environment. Students worldwide are able to share their experiences and their viewpoints. I have used this website in my ELA classroom as a supplement to my argumentative writing unit. This website is also valuable when discussing current events and global issues. It gives student-friendly opinions of what is going on in the world.
