My Take

Xtra Math is a great free online resource that will let teachers quickly create their roster of students, print welcome letters to parents and get students online to build fact fluency. The back side of the site is easy for teachers to use to track student progress, monitor facts mastered and those still being practiced. The site works on iPads as well, in case computers are limited in number. It can be a great home resource and students could receive recognition for time practiced at home. A daily session is done in under 10 minutes making it a great beginning or end of day activity.

How I Use It

As an instructional coach I did the initial setup of classes for the teachers. Parent letters were generated on the site and sent home with students. Students used the site on computers as well as iPads for daily practice. As students mastered a set of facts (i.e., addition) they received a certificate. For those who practiced at hoe, they were recognized at a monthly assembly. Each student could log on and complete their daily review in under 10 minutes.
