My Take

I like having an easy to use American history resource tool at my fingertips. Teachers need to be thoughtful of how to have students use it. Students should be taking that information to feed strategies that lead to higher levels of learning, not just information recall. The app itself does not promote deeper thinking - teachers need to make sure that happens. I hope it becomes an iOS app soon.

How I Use It

The United States History app (Android only) provides information related to specific historical documents, important people, patriotic artifacts, and the military. It also provides text of important speeches. Students can easily use the information to gain insight in the events that shaped the nation. I can see students using this resource to compare speeches, identify cause and effect, understand the background behind certain events, and learn about those men (presidents) that left their imprint on our country. There is some more trivial information in the app, such as flag protocol, which I found interesting. It is purely an information resource tool that is simply laid out and very easy to use.
