Create Engaging Interactive Stories with Twine!
Community Review for Twine
My Take
This is a great tool to use when starting a game design unit. Students can build very simple games, with no coding required, then can slowly learn bits of html to bring their game to life. Also because of the story element it meant my students really focussed on building a narrative for their story! This was a great way to test and strengthen our computational thinking. We loved it!
How I Use It
I used this at the start of my Game Design unit. Students had to design interactive story games to solve a problem in our community. They have created games for 6th graders to get to know the school layout and rules, one for teenagers about driving safely and games about managing your homework load. A lot of these topics might sound a little dull, but my students added in a great amount of humor to bring these to life! They also put in a lot of their own html to add in images, change the font and to make the game even more interactive.
I've also recently made a game with my Grade 6 advisory class, where we put all the information we learnt during an Aqua Vitae/water unit, into our own game!
I'm going to work with some other subject teachers to build games in Twine - including a game about science experiments and lab safety and a creative story with a Grade 7 English class.
