My Take
I really enjoyed introducing this product to the students. This program is a virtual mindmap for students to have a poster that has lots of information yet still looks clean. Applying this as an ongoing database to student learning could allow students to have a area where they collect a units knowledge and can always go back and revisit their notes. It also allows students to insert videos and images which could assist those ESL students that do not completely understand the language being taught in the classroom and link it to something to help them understand better.
How I Use It
Students were engaged while using this program. It was used as a technology based assessment through a Science unit. Students had to collect their research and data through an individual & student-driven assessment task and apply this information to the Thinglink. Students enjoyed the possibility of having to always use technology any use a different program. They had to apply their background knowledge as well as their research material to provide the reader with knowledge about their topic. Students were able to link their google docs, links to pages they had taken their information, write small excerpts, as well as link videos to their virtual mindmap!
The free version of this is slightly limited to the dots/link icons and disappointed. The word count also influenced students not to write a giant essay but to sum up their thinking.
