My Take

This product is great to allow the teacher/user the ability to move about the room and not be chained to the front board. I believe it gives flexibility and proximity that many students require. I think it is positive for student monitoring and therefore student learning.

How I Use It

I use this when I am doing lessons on the SmartBoard in my room. Having many students that have attention issues, and have differing needs, this allows me to be close in proximity and have a presence in the room. I often walk around the room changing my position due to many factors. This allows me to keep the lesson going while addressing anything that comes up. I enjoy circulating and giving specific feedback to individual students while a lesson is going on, especially a math lesson.

Interactive Mobile Whiteboard at a Low Cost

Most of my teachers love this tool. Not all of them use it to its full potential. Some only use it as a wireless remote, but even then, it moves them form the front of the classroom to a place where they can monitor and interact with their students more effectively. The tools that come with Splashtop Whiteboard itself are very basic and limiting, but when the tool is used in conjuction with a tool like SmartNotebook and some training, it can be an extremely powerful teaching tool.

Helpful for unchaining you from behind your desk.

Splashtop unchains me from standing behind my desk so that I can run presentations while standing amongst my students. The load time is sometimes slow and I'm not sure if this is a network issuer or an issue with the app. Some of the controls and gestures are not very self explanatory which makes it sometimes difficult to use. I wish you could change the settings to turn off certain gesture functions. For example, a 2-finger tap will turn on trackpad mode (which seems like an utterly useless feature) and it's difficult to switch back once it's activated. Despite these annoyances, I depend on Splashtop daily in my classroom.
