My Take
As a quiz / poll delivery system Socrative provides the basics unflaggingly. Currently, the results come either with student names or anonymously--it's all on or off--making projection of the screen tricky. I'd rather have a way to show live results without student names on the screen. I do wish there was a way to report class results anonymously while still recording specific-student information. Of course, the work around is to click report and hide the student names column in the results spreadsheet, but the format is not as compact nor easy to read. Overall, in a 1:1 tech environment, its an effective and efficient tool for basic assessment that replaces clicker systems.
How I Use It
Socrative offers an facilitates formative assessment. I like it's uncluttered, professional interface and simple functions. I occasionally use it for short quizzes to check student understanding of readings in my high school English class, but the exit ticket feature is a go-to for polling student understanding on the fly, provided students have devices (either smart phones or laptops). Instantly I can see where students are in terms of understanding material. Not only can I save reports directly to my Google Drive but also print paper copies for absentee makeup.
