My Take

Socrative is an excellent tool because students can log in from any location. The accessibility is a great feature. It also has web access so students do not necessarily need to have the app downloaded. Students are excited to complete assessments because it is a variation of pencil and paper tests. The digital graphics could be improved. Socrative, which runs on tablets, smartphones, and laptops, is an interesting app because it allows me to pose a question and have students respond in real time to my inquiry. I can assess on the fly and best of all, students can use their portable media to provide me with near instant feedback. Clickers do this but the benefit of Socrative is that students do not have to buy anything and I do not have to spend a lot of time developing quizzes using any certain format.

How I Use It

I use this product to have students complete quizzes. It is also useful as a first responder tool. It could be beneficial for parents or staff as surveys can be created. The students enjoy getting to use technology as they complete assessments. There are two versions of Socrative—a student version and an instructor version. Once logging in, students enter a room number. The instructor can then see how many students are in the room (he/she can also clear the room), and begin posing questions to the students. The different question options range from multiple choice, True/False, or open-ended questions. Socrative also compiles all the answers and presents it to you on your screen or via email.
