My Take

Scratch is an extremely versatile teaching tool. It is easy to get started using it in any classroom K-12. Students get very absorbed in their projects and it reinforces many math skills while allowing students to show their creativity. Scratch 2.0 is web based making it very easy to use with students. There is also an offline version available.

How I Use It

I use Scratch as a deep dive into basic computational thinking, problem solving and creativity in my high school Programming 1 course. Students learn all the basics of programming in a creative and engaging manner. I used the Creative Computing Workshop materials that ScratchEd put together last summer and it has made a big difference in getting them ready for further study in programming.
