Stay in touch with parents and students with Remind
Community Review for Remind
My Take
My students are proactive in asking me to send out reminders. I love that I can schedule reminders--I can create them during the school day, but set them to be sent when students are not in classes or on the weekends. I also like that I can choose to send reminders to multiple classes at once. Just as my students really like it, their parents are very appreciative that I've started doing this.
A drawback is that my students don't seem to understand/share my belief that if I remind them about every single responsibility, I feel I will be enabling them. It is important to me that they are accountable for their obligations. On the other hand, I definitely see more completed work as a result of the reminders.
I have chosen to disable all chat features, as I want to keep any communication with students public as opposed to private unless it is through my school email. I see many potential advantages of using the chat feature, but I am not comfortable with that.
This program really could not be any easier to use!
How I Use It
I send periodic reminders to parents and students about assignments and other class-related items that I think students might forget about. Alternatively, if there is something I forgot to mention in class, I will send a reminder with that information. I did not require anyone to sign up, but instead made it optional. I also reached out to parents with a packet at the beginning of the year and included our remind sign-up information as a packet page. In addition, I inform parents with whom I have contact throughout the year if I see they have not signed up.
