My Take

I love this tool! I like how it's quick and easy for me, and it eliminates most of the "I didn't know" excuses from my students (and even my son!)
I like how I can send messages to different groups of students if necessary.
I don't like that they have to sign up for it. I make it a requirement and try to walk them through it on the first day, but I would love the option to add them manually by phone number so I can be sure they are added in a timely manner.

How I Use It

As a parent, I receive Remind notifications from my son's teachers. Now instead of asking my son if he has homework, I can ask him specifically about an assignment the teacher just sent a message about.
As a teacher, I can keep my students informed about upcoming events and assignments, My students may not check email or a written syllabus, but they are never far from their phones, so Remind keeps them updated on what I expect for the next day - a homework assignment or something they need to bring to class. The new chat features also allows them to send a message back to clarify something they don't understand.
The biggest problem I have is for students who do not have a phone that can receive text messages. There are not many, but I have to be careful to use this as a secondary source of information where the primary source is available to everyone regardless of the technology they have.
