My Take
Excellent way to communicate to students via texting without giving out your cell phone number. The app creates a special number and students cannot respond back. Because it is a text sent to their phones, they get the messages almost immediately. Students sign up by texting a specific code to a number created by the app. They are automatically signed up. You can create as many different groups as you'd like for each class, or organization. It is then amazingly easy to send out a mass text message to the group. I love this app for its ease of use and the power it gives to remind my students. No more excuses about not knowing when as assignment was due, or not knowing the test was today!
How I Use It
I use this app to send reminders to my student and club members of upcoming events and assignments. It is an excellent one-way communication with students that sends the message via text directly to their cell phones. It can also be set up to send reminders to e-mail in case a student does not have a cell phone. I have used this to remind students of meetings, project due dates, homework assignments, test dates, etc. I have also used it to send important reminders of class cancellations.
