Excellent way to get students involved in tracking their own progress!
Community Review for ReadTheory
My Take
I think ReadTheory is a great resource for any classroom. It cannot stand alone as the only reading instruction a student receives, but it is excellent independent practice. The passages are engaging and enjoyable. I cannot say enough about how much students enjoy checking their progress. They can see if their grade level equivalent goes up or down with each passage and they respond appropriately to their results. It is excellent, self-paced practice in reading comprehension, and that is hard to find.
How I Use It
I use ReadTheory.org two ways. First, i use it as a measure of my students' reading progress in my regular classes. ReadTheory tracks student performance on Explicit and Implicit questions as well as Vocabulary questions. It is an easy way to get a glimpse at what they are struggling with. Students track their own progress, but I also pull their results and conference with them.
I also use ReadTheory as a reading-based reward for my intervention group. They enjoy the texts and enjoy seeing their own progress.
