Great student engagement + executive functioning skills
Community Review for Reading Eggs
My Take
This program is highly engaging for students because it has a great incentive program. Additionally all of the activities in the program are either content based or executive functioning based. Students develop crucial literacy skills at their level after the given pretest spanning all areas of literacy. Additionally there is a massive digital library and resources for whole class and small group teaching. Students can utilize games and other features with the "golden eggs" they have earned through lessons or reading books and all of the games either practice literacy skills or develop other cognitive skills such as problem solving or navigation. The program also has very detailed reports on what the students have used and their achievement on specific skills.
How I Use It
I have used Reading Eggs & Reading Eggspress with 4th grade students with disabilities. Two students are ELL and LD reading, 2 ADHD, 2 LD reading. Students use this during the mandatory 30 minutes of independent reading and access the e-library at this time by themselves. Students use the program for an additional 30 minutes in which they do a phonics lesson or comprehension lesson under supervision with coaching.
