Community Review for Raz-Kids
My Take
I appreciate that my school paid for this website for all my students. It takes a while to set up the class. The teacher must input all the student names and then make the usernames and passwords easy for children to remember and type. After that, the teacher must assign a group of levels to each student.
How I Use It
During our study of bats, my students were able to access two differently leveled non-fiction books about bats. I chose whether they needed to read the material themselves or whether they could listen to it. Afterwards they took a comprehension test.

We enjoyed it but other options have been more helpful.
I enjoyed it to help give kids something to read on a daily basis that I didn't need to worry too much about. In order to really help kids improve in their reading you do have to spend time with the kids to help them understand the material and some of the material provided was just too simple and straight forward.

Helpful but lacks in certain areas.
However, RazKids lacked in grammar which I found to be extremely important for the kids and the stories were fairly straight forward. The kids needed something that had more critical thinking portions which is when we landed on Beestar. Beestar provided kids with lots of classical stories with good test taking sample questions. The kids were better prepared for their standardized tests after we switched to using Beestar.

Decent for a quick assessment
In general, RAZ-kids works for me in terms of getting a quick assessment from students. I appreciate that I can get a running record from every student with 5-10 minutes of effort (on their end). It's also nice that I can assign individual students/groups books/stories at their levels. That being said, my students don't love the books that are on this site.
