Community Review for Quiver - 3D Coloring App
My Take
Using augmented reality to spark student interest and excitement has made ColAR ( now called Quiver) a valuable tool for teaching, primarily as a way to encourage writing and close reading for detail. My criticism is that there are a limited number of free pictures, and if you pay for a picture to use, it can only be viewed on the specific device it was downloaded from, not any device with the app.
How I Use It
This app is now called "Quiver". I love this app. I use this app for writing projects. One project I did last year with my second and third grade students was an extension of a Nat Geo student magazine article we had read on rainforest birds. There was a picture of a rainforest bird on ColAR that I downloaded from the website, copied, and my students colored them. They used iPads to see the video embedded in the picture. Then they wrote expository pieces based upon facts learned in the Nat Geo article. I had each student stand in front of the iPad holding the picture flat on their desks. As the video played I snapped a photo of each student. Then we published our writing with the photos showing each student with their 3D bird. We have done numerous writing projects with this app.
