My Take
Overall, I have enjoyed using Quill. One particular aspect that is important to me is that students don't simply select and click on answers; they must retype sentences, filling in the correct answer. This element, in my opinion, is crucial to deeper learning, as students have to reconstruct sentences themselves, simultaneously checking for spelling, spacing, and punctuation. Though this can be frustrating for some students (the program will say, "Check your spelling"), it's a helpful exercise for students to take a deep breath and try to reexamine their answers in a more precise way.
How I Use It
I use this product to first gain a general understanding of my students' skills in grammar. Upon examining the diagnostic results, I can then fine tune future lessons and assign individualized content. For example, there is a different diagnostic for ELL learners, as well as leveled diagnostics for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. On a weekly basis, students have a different set of 5-6 exercises that they complete for the week. They complete this for homework or during times when they have finished classwork activities.
