My Take

This is very useful for ELL students, because they need rote practice, and they can get individualized correction more quickly. It also gives them practice in typing and is particular about using periods and capitals correctly.

My advanced students were definitely challenged by the exercises in parallel structure. It is a technique that will also help them produce better writing.

I hope that the creators of Quill will keep adding more exercises! Of course, it is great that it is FREE!!

How I Use It

I use this for my ELL students at many levels. They enjoy working on their own at the computers, and it gives them much-needed practice in typing as well as writing and practice. Best of all, they get immediate feedback and the chance to correct their work. I can also display their progress on the overhead projector and they like to be in competition with one another.

If one exercise is too challenging, they can choose a different one. So far I have used it to focus on past tense in writing, both regular and irregular verbs. I like the fact that they need to use capitals and periods properly in order to get it completely correct.

It is easy for me because exercises are already created. I can just pick particular ones and group them per class. Also, it is easy to change student passwords for logins if they forget them.
