My Take

Prodigy is not meant to be an entire math curriculum. However, it fits in very well with other good teaching strategies and good pedagogy. Prodigy is a supplemental tool that students LOVE. It allows for easy differentiation by the teacher and is great for a quick assessment tool. Students have never had so much fun being assessed! It's important that teachers use good management practices when using prodigy, as with all technology and activities. Students should know what is expected of them when they are "playing" and should be held accountable for their work on the site.

How I Use It

Prodigy is a way for teachers to engage their students in math. The kids LOVE it. It makes math fun for them. Teachers can tailor the experience by differentiating what assignments students see. If a small group of students needs extra practice with a specific skill, the teacher can assign them that skill. If a student has mastered a concept, the teacher can assign more advanced skills. Teachers can use Prodigy as a formative assessment to gauge student understanding of a new concept or to review concepts taught earlier in the year. Teachers can set plans that align with the standards as they are taught through the year so students receive problems that go along with what is being taught.
