Prodigy is amazing for engaging students and capturing data for math instruction.
Community Review for Prodigy Math
My Take
Prodigy has really changed how my students view math. I love that I can plan assignments towards standards or pick types of problems. I monitor results in real time to provide one-on-one support as needed. The engagement piece has been amazing. My students actually love math time now. There are only two part that I think needs to be improved. The wait time when battling another students. I usually give some sort of handout or writing assignment to do during their wait time. Another way around it is to have students only battle monsters unless it is earned free time. There is no wait time during monster battles. The second thing that could be improved is the ability to monitor what students are doing on their own learning path like we can when they are working on a planned assignment.
How I Use It
I use Prodigy as a tool to gauge my students understanding of a math concept that I have taught. This student have time to independently practice what they have learned. I find that it is really important to use the planning tool so I can monitor what type of questions they are working on. For example, if I assign addition to 100 I will watch if my students are answer correctly. If I see three or four problems wrong in a row I know I need to step in. I will provide either one-on-on support or small group support depending on the needs of my students.
