My Take

Great program overall. The gamified nature engages the kids, it can also be a distractor as they like to battle each other which means time is wasted finding their friends within the game. I think the learning time to gaming time/waiting time is perhaps a little low, but it does contribute to student engagement, so all in all I can live with it. The reporting tools are fabulous, although information on the students who play outside of the classroom is more rounded than those who only play at school (which means data on the most needy students is lacking). One problem I have is that there is a lot of focus on traditional alogrithms whereas our math program stresses non-traditional methods for multiplication and division, I would like to see this changed as it skews assessment results.

How I Use It

I use this for math stations in the classroom as well as for homework. Students absolutely love the gamified nature of the learning tool and are enthusiastic about spending time on it. This means that it is easy to have the majority of the class engaged in the program whilst I pull small groups for specific instruction. Students are also keen to play the game at home which means I don't need to set homework.
