My Take

Poppet is a simple tool that can be used for presentation of ideas, student collaboration, and organizing information. Presentations and notes can be created using colors, text and images. Poppet can also be used when teaching students how to take notes in a content class. The app is available for apple devices. One note: Images can be added, but video clips cannot be used here. Overall, this tool has a variety of uses in the classroom!

How I Use It

I used Popplet last week to take notes on a text about the eruption of Mt..St. Helens. Projected on my interactive board, students added main ideas and details, color-coded by category. Sixth-graders who usually struggle with tasks requiring mental organization had very little trouble moving the ovals of text into the correct categories! They loved the activity and asked if they could download the apps on the phones to create their own popplets! After this class, I shared the app with a colleague, who began using it as a student note-taking application. Students were able to understand the note-taking process so much better because of color-coding and the ability to move popplet's to categorize ideas. Students were able to understand concepts easier with the manipulation aspect of Popplet.
