My Take
Popplet is visually appealing. You can set up a board with a few clicks. With a free account you can have 5 boards. If someone wants more, they would have to pay for an account. The Yearly Plan for unlimited Popplets is $30.
The use of Popplet is practical. You double click to add a bubble. Bubbles can be customized with color and to include text or pictures. The free account does limit the number of pictures that can be included on a board. It is easy to add additional bubbles that build off the first. It is visually appealing and easy to use. Students are able to collaborate on a Popplet, which raises the engagement level.
How I Use It
Students use Popplet to summarize learning. Popplet can be used as a traditional mind mapping tool, with a central theme and ideas branching off from that. The bubbles, or popplets, can include pictures and text. Two more creative ways to utilize Popplet would be as a timeline or a story summary. The timeline would only have bubbles in a horizontal row, unless there were topics building off the main events. The story summary included each of the plot elements on a horizontal row with the details below. So there was a column for characters, a column for setting, a column for plot, etc.
