My Take

Pixton is a great way to infuse creativity and higher-order thinking skills through comic creation. Students get to change the setting, choose their characters, and add text. I like that when I gave it as an assignment to an advanced group of students they needed no step by step instruction as they were able to jump right in and start creating. Student projects can be printed and shared with other classes or shared online. When sharing them with a larger audience, we noticed that students did a much better job on their work. There are many ways I can see teachers using Pixton in the classroom.

How I Use It

In the English Language classroom, this is a great way for students to demonstrate their understanding of new vocabulary terms by creating short comics. It's also a great for students to respond to literature they are reading. We use the Pixton paid app through Edmodo and students are able to create a variety of comics. The free version only allows them to create one. As long as students have a draft, it's possible secondary students can complete their comic in about 2 days.
