My Take
Osmo Numbers is a fabulous way for students to practice math facts and early counting skills. The app is bright, the fish cheerful, and there are positive reinforcements and no timer pressures. Students can always try again so there's no feeling of "I lost". I like the new feature of student accounts so I can monitor progress.
How I Use It
I use Osmo Numbers in my classroom in centers. Since a base is required and I only have a few it doesn't work to have all students playing at the same time. However, a 10-20 minute center rotation is the perfect amount of time for 2 students to work together on the game. Not only are they building math skills, but also cooperation skills. A recent feature of Osmo games is a "log in", which allows different students to return to their level at a later time. This makes it easy for differentiation and individualization. Students can choose from counting, addition, concatenation, and multiplication. The only downside is that the iPad must be removed from any case to play.
