My Take

National Geographic Education is an incredibly flexible tool. It could be used for anything from research to creating maps to building background knowledge. Because this has content for K-5 and 6-12, these resources could be differentiated but not to a granular level. While obviously a resource for geography, students could also explore topics for other content areas (filters are present for drilling down searches). The multimedia in the site is engaging, but adding audio support would be a great option for ELL students or those who need audio support for reading. Some terms are identified for vocabulary building, but I think this could be expanded for greater impact.

How I Use It

I would use this site when I had a geography or science topic that I wanted students to explore with varied options for learning (video content, interactive games, articles, etc.). Because you can change audience views, content could be differentiated for students (although it is divided between K-5 and 6-12). For example, our students do units on climate change, and there are some amazing resources here with many different aspects to that topic.
