Fantastic Tool for Positive Behavior Management!
Community Review for LiveSchool
My Take
The bottom line is this program is a positive and fun way to reinforce positive behavior in your school. This is the easiest program we've ever used and it gives us excellent data to see who the students are that need an extra boost of positivity and where in our building we need to place more emphasis. If teachers are hesitant to use a program like this, have them try it out for a few weeks and they'll see how simple it is to run and how motivating it can be for students.
We also like how it is a fun program without it being too childish for secondary students. This program has found the nice balance of being not too boring for elementary and also not too cartoonish for secondary.
Finally, the people running LiveSchool are always working on way to improve it. They just added some cool new features that make it even easier to correctly enter points, like the ability to mark students absent so, when your whole class gets points, it doesn't add them to students not present. LiveSchool is constantly evolving to always be better!
How I Use It
We use LiveSchool district-wide K-8. Every single adult in our building has an account and, therefore, the ability to add points to any student when they are caught doing the right thing.
For the adults in the building, the process of adding points and comments could not be easier. Everything can be done on a laptop, iPad, or your iPhone. Students love hearing the "ding" when they receive a positive point and they can check their balance at any time on their own devices.
Our counselors have set up our "store" on the site as well. Once every few weeks, students get a chance to buy items and trinkets with their LiveSchool points or buy experiences with adults. Managing the store is incredibly simple and any adult in the building can charge items to their students' accounts.
Parents also have accounts to the program and it has become a very simple way for teachers to communicate to students how a day has gone without sending time-consuming and lengthy emails.
The student buy-in is amazing! The key is for your school to come up with exciting and meaningful things for your students to purchase. These can be the aforementioned trinkets or experiences or they can also be tied to purchasing tickets to school games or dances, homework passes, or tardy passes. The more meaningful it is to students, the more buy-in you'll have to use it daily.
