My Take
Overall, this could be a useful tool in the classroom setting. I feel that it is a program that would require a lot of commitment from teachers, parents, and students. Teachers would need to actively monitor student progress and the amount of time each student uses the program. The program must be used for a certain amount of time in order to be fully effective. A teacher would need to set aside specific time during their class or assign the lessons as homework in order for students to have adequate time for the lessons. The program allows teachers to monitor the number of minutes that students use the program, as well as their progress. The program also provides a helpful action plan for differentiation for students. I'm not sure if this would be the best tool for a large class, but it could prove to be beneficial for small group sessions or RTI interventions.
How I Use It
Lexia Learning Strategies is an intervention tool that can be used with struggling readers in grades six and up. The program provides students with an opportunity to continue to practice and build their reading foundation skills. Students are allowed to work at their own pace and should they struggle with any lesson or skill, the program provides scaffolding until that student successfully completes that particular task. The program continuously assesses the student and provides teachers with informative data for each participating student. The program provides lessons in comprehension, fluency, vocabulary building, and more.
