My Take

I think this is a great tool to have in a classroom. The students love it. It gives students opportunities to explore and investigate animals like I never could without it. The students learn about animals, where they live, and where they are on the food chain. It also builds on their geography skills. This tool works well with the LeapFrog Earth Adventures. Students can explore the world, and the people and animals that live on it. I also really like that it goes from kindergarten to 4th grade. It is geared towards a greater age variety. I truly feel it could even go higher. Kids that love animals, will love this.

How I Use It

I use this to teach my students about animals and habitats. It is a great way for them to explore the world around them without leaving the classroom. Every year, we do a unit about animals and their habitats. We also discuss migration and hibernation. This is a great way for students to experience the animals and learn about how and where they live. They have such a large variety of animals on this. The students learn facts and are quizzed on what they learn. It even lets the students compare and contrast the animals and classify them. They become zoologist. They love it. We mostly use this in small groups. The students work as a team and explore the animals and their habitats. I even let them wear safari hats and go on the adventure. They do not want to switch groups when they are playing this game. I use it during exploratory and discovery stations to enhance what we have learned about the animals already, further student knowledge. They also learn about different animals and are able to discuss further when we do the science lesson the next day.
