My Take

Bottom Line- I love using Lalilo! It’s perfect for differentiating for developing readers and SpEd students. I love that it doesn’t require much planning on my end, and that I get a lot of useful data on how my students are progressing. In the age of whole language reading, Lalilo is a valuable tool to make sure our most vulnerable students aren’t left behind.

How I Use It

I started using Lalilo a few months ago as a way to allow for small group or individual instruction within my RSP groups. It allowed me to work one on one with certain students that really needed it, while keeping the other students engaged and learning. As a side bonus, they seem to like it better than some of my phonics drills. Now that the world is on lockdown, Lalilo has been really valuable in allowing my students continue practicing at home, while letting me monitor their progress and assign targeted intervention activities.
The program starts off by assessing each student’s skills and assigning lessons based on their needs. From there it tracks their progress and supports them in the areas of decoding, sight words, word family, and comprehension. I get regular reports of how students are doing, that include areas of challenge that I can focus on in class. Because lalilo automatically assigns and adjusts instruction, it frees up a lot of my planning time. It’s also handy to be able to look at student data when I’m preparing IEPs and progress reports.
