Lalilo is a great supplemental teaching tool for phonics instruction. Students can work independently and progress at their own pace. I love that I can monitor their progress and see what they are working on or need additional help with.

My Take

I really like Lalilo and so does the student I am using it with. He enjoys getting badges as a way to monitor where he is at in the program and to show which lessons he has completed. I would like to see something different done with the reading and comprehension questions portion so that students are "forced" to read the story in order to be able to answer the questions. My current student is a very good guesser and can get 100% without ever reading the story.

How I Use It

I currently use this product for one 4th grade special education student that is a non-reader. This helps him build letter/sound correspondence since he does not consistently know all of the letters of the alphabet or the sounds that they make. He is also learning the basic sight words. My only concern is when he is supposed to read a story/article and answer comprehension questions. This student is a very good guesser and has answered all of the comprehension questions correctly without reading the story. I feel that this defeats the purpose of this part of the program.
