My Take
I like that it helps students feel successful and gives them immediate feedback. I like that they can understand instructions relatively easily and the teacher interface is easy to use. It’s not so engaging that students get overexcited and impatient but it’s engaging enough to keep their attention. Would love to see a few more timed exercises to test fluency in reading sounds are very short words.
How I Use It
I show my students by playing the game in front of them and having them give me input to answer the questions. I use it mainly as part of reading centres for grade one French immersion students. Almost every single student I get starts with no french, or a few number words and ‘bonjour’ only. So they have no oral background In The language and must learn oral, reading and writing simultaneously. There is very little that I can have them do so early on that they can do independently and get immediate feedback. This is a great activity to start at about a month after starting the year. I play it in front of them for some exercises so that they can hear the instructions in French and I can walk them through the key words to listen for, puzzling out what to do and how to hear the instructions again.
