Engaging Formative Assessment Where Students Can Track Their Progress In Real Time
Community Review for Kahoot!
My Take
I like that this a relatively easy way to incorporate technology into a whole-group setting. If you have iPads/iPods at your disposal it is much easier than taking the class down to the computer lab for an assessment. I think the competitive nature makes it a fun way to take a quiz/test, and provides the teacher with valuable data as to which concepts students might be struggling with.
How I Use It
I've used Kahoot as a formative assessment to check student learning as we progress through a unit. Kahoot can be used on computers, iPads or even iPods. The instructor creates a test/quiz which generates a login code for students. The instructor then projects the test/quiz on the board while students use Kahoot as a kind of electronic clicker. Students can see immediately if their responses were correct or incorrect. I find that the entire class is engaged through the use of technology, the fact that it is a race to beat the clock and a type of competition among themselves. On the flip side, the timed and competitive nature sometimes stressed certain students out. I really enjoy how as the teacher you can see exactly where students were struggling, and target those areas for review before moving forward.
