My Take

iMovie is a behemoth of an app. It takes up a great deal of space on an iPad, but the results of the app create an even bigger impact. There is no finer video editing app available on any mobile device. iMovie creations must find a home for storage off the device. I recommend getting them on YouTube (set to the privacy settings of your choosing and easily shared), or stashing them in Cloud storage - the end file sizes are also ginormous.

How I Use It

iMovie is an essential tool in our creation-focused tool belt. The user interface and experience is straightforward and designed to make your projects look amazing. We have used iMovie for PSA, book trailers, interviews, featurettes, highlights, app smashing, sharing reports, and general capture and editing of academic learning experiences. Students quickly catch on and have been the best helpers for their peers. Our greatest successes have been when we lead with an example of the finished product and then reverse-engineered the video. From the end result, we examined the finished video in edit mode. From there we looked closely at each element, removing or tweaking each bit to see what can be changed. Before turning creation entirely over to the students, we would build a quick project together. While time-consuming, this method worked well for us.
