My Take

This app allows for tremendous creativity. Students can incorporate music and special effects. I would like to see more options with titles and transitions. I wouldn't expect this app to be as versatile as the desktop version, but I wish there was a little more. Students still really enjoy using it. The students are quick to learn the features as well as share what they have learned with the classmates and families. Uploading our videos to Google Drive has also allowed us to share them with more people.

How I Use It

I have used iMovie for many different projects. Students are truly engaged by the ability to shoot, produce, direct, and edit their own movies. I don't like the trailer option. It doesn't allow for the students to be truly creative. It is to locked down with what the students have to do not what they want to do. If you have a classroom all create trailers, you will end up watching the same movie 20 times. I encourage the students to use the movie setting. I have used it to help students create how-to videos in math and problem solving, I have used it in Science to document our experiments. We use it for our Create Lab (a time that promotes the 21st Century Skill) to record students creations. The students will document projects and then make documentaries about the creations.
