Great tool for students to create and share videos.
Community Review for iMovie
My Take
Students love using iMovie to create video projects. One downside is that it usually takes forever with the filming and typically need to be outside of the classroom (like in the hallway) since typically multiple groups will be filming at once. The app is pricey at $5, but I've noticed more and more students already have it on their personal devices which is great since the videos students film outside of class are always much better than those done in the hallway. The trailer template is also great because it includes a storyboard for students to fill out which helps prepare them before filming.
How I Use It
iMovie allows students to create videos using the camera functionality of an iPad. Students can create long-form videos of varying lengths or short trailers using different genre templates. Students can piece together pictures and videos while using some editing features as well. I mainly use iMovie as a summative option with novels where students get into small groups and film different things related to the book we read. Typically students will either film a scene/multiple scenes or do a movie trailer. Some really like the trailer templates because they include lots of quick cuts in the video and easily allow students to add text in between the extremely short video clips. Some prefer just doing a full video where they have total control over how long each clip is. Videos can then be saved onto the device and/or uploaded to difference services to easily share with the entire class.
