My Take

All of my students have loved using iMovie. They enjoy being creative and are willing to do the research to make a better video. With all the options of trailers and movie boards, the students have something that will fit their needs.

How I Use It

I have a copy of storyboards for the students. When we develop an iMovie (usually this is an end product to show students' understanding of a science concept), the students are given the storyboards in advance. They will work with their small groups in order to write out their script on the storyboard. I have found this to save a lot of time because once the students are given the iPads, they want to start videoing immediately and don't work together to focus on their theme, ideas, or story line. Once the storyboards are written and approved by me, the students are checked out an iPad to create their iMovie. The students will either make the movie to show their understanding of the concept or they may have to do some further research to complete the requirements. It is at this point that you can differentiate and give different rubrics for TAG or higher level thinkers, general students, and students with modifications.
