My Take

One of the BEST teaching tools. Versatile and can be used in so many facets. Watch the YouTube video "Google Earth in Plain English" to help any one new to the "tour" become well acquainted.

How I Use It

There are two different ways I use Google Earth in the classroom:
1) Teacher-led: I introduce a new lesson or information by taking students on a tour of the area (ie: Islamic Culture Unit where we explored where the Islamic Empire existed, the present day countries, how far it spread, and where the Islamic religion is practiced today showing a correlation between past events and current life).

2) Student centered: Students will create a tour of their own (ie: at the end of the year in my World History classes we break into small groups and explore their favorite areas, Empires, and locations throughout the year. While creating this tour, students will log their journey with informational entries and images. This allow students to participate in a review, adding their own thoughts, and customizing a virtual tour of the various cultures and places we studied along the way!
