Community Review for Google Drive
My Take
This is a great tool for all ages. I even use Google Drive with my first and second grade students. I really love Drive because it levels the playing field. Students are able to access their work from anywhere at any time. Many of my students do not have computers at home and they enjoy that they can access all of their work when they head to the local library or a family or friend's house.
I would highly recommend this tool to all teachers. I have many teachers that are nervous about using this. I have encouraged them by starting small. Begin with only introducing Google Docs. As they get more comfortable and the students are more proficient begin introducing the other tools within Drive.
How I Use It
I use Google Drive and all of its apps (Docs, Spreadsheets, Presentations, and Forms) with my students (1st - 8th Grade) on a weekly basis if not daily. We all know the basic uses of Google Docs, however, I am so grateful for the collaboration piece. We use Google Docs for Rough Cuts. This is the process we go through to critique and review each other's work. My students get feedback from each and everyone of their classmates. I used to do this out loud in class, however I would only hear form a handful of students that were willing to share their thoughts. Now each and every child has a platform to respond and be heard. It is a great avenue for some of my quieter students.
