Community Review for Google Drive
My Take
I use Google Drive every day. I like not having to make copies and wasting so much paper and not hearing students claim they lost the assignment. I think the collaboration feature is very useful, especially the tracking capability, to ensure all students are working and contributing.
I can create a library of documents to share with future classrooms.
Although I scored low on pedagogy and supports, this is a very valuable tool that students can use well into college and beyond.
How I Use It
I use Google Drive to upload lessons, video links, and to create surveys and online tests. I "share" the links with students via email, or by sending them to their individual drives. Once students complete the assessments, their answers are placed into a spreadsheet for easy grading. Some "scripts" can create "Goobrics" to grade the assignments or to send students personalized feedback.
Students have a digital copy of the links and assignments instead of hard copies. They may print them if they prefer to work with paper and pencil.
Students complete classwork and homework online using Google Docs. They share the assignment with me and retain their copy in their drive. I can add comments to their paper for them to view.
Students have also worked collaboratively in small groups to create notes and presentations. One student creates a document and shares it with me and their group mates. I can track who did what on the assignment to ensure everyone is working.
In addition, students use it in place of a thumb drive. They are able to create or upload documents to their Drive to open anywhere they have internet access.
